U18 - U18 LL

Champions & Final Farewell

Apr. 07 - 2022

St Catherines Tournament Champions

The Ayr Rockets U18LL team participated in the Brock Jr. Badgers House Tournament on the weekend of April 1 - 3.  Unfortunately, due to the Covid shutdowns, they were unable to play in their three previously scheduled tournaments, but with some good luck, a last minute spot was available for the Rockets to play in this year end tourney.

The first game started out a bit slow but with hard work the team managed to pull off a win with a score of 4 - 1.  From there, it only got better.  Goalie Lauren Gerth shut down the next four teams, stopping 73 pucks and maintaining a four game shutout streak. The girls were on fire amassing 144 shots in five games.  A common theme during the season in the pregame dressing room chats is the number of shots on net, where the players would predict how many shots the team would make that game. The coaches would remind them more than once that when they make thirty plus shots on net they will win the game. Maddy Ellis proudly chose to prove the coaches point, and in the championship game took shot #30 in OT to win gold for the team.

Every team member played hard and showcased some of the best played games of the season.  Parents all agreed that the last three games of the tournament were some of the most exciting and best they have seen.  A big congrats to all the U18LL Ayr Rockets players, coaches and staff for a big finish to a great season!

Third Year Players

The Ayr Rockets U18LL team is saying goodbye to four veteran players this year.  Lauren Gerth, Makenna Hall, Jill Livingston and Kylie Spencer are all hanging up their Rocket jerseys for the last time.

Lauren officially joined the Rockets as a first year Midget player but wore a Rocket jersey a few times in the previous two years. The Bantam team was without a rostered goalie, needed someone between the pipes and Lauren was happy to help.  Her favourite memory is winning her last ever tournament as a Rocket undefeated!  Lauren loved being in the “dance circle” and how everyone was pumped and excited to play. Lauren hopes to continue playing hockey in an adult league while attending Lakehead University for a degree in Concurrent Education.

Makenna became a Rocket as a first year PeeWee after playing ringette for three years and has never looked back. She developed many friendships with her teammates.  Her favourite part of playing with the Rockets was going to away tournaments and enjoying team dinners and team championship wins. Makenna will miss playing for the Rockets and hopes to continue playing hockey while attending the University of Guelph where she will be majoring in Biomedical Sciences.

Jill started her Rockets career the first year there was an Ayr Novice team in 2011.  Some of her favourite hockey memories are meeting Meghan Agosta at the awards banquet in 2014 and competing with teams from across Ontario. Jill’s parents loved when she played on the same line with her sister making a Livingston goal with a Livingston assist.  Congrats to Jill as she has accepted an offer to the University of Ottawa for a double honours major in Political Science and History.

Kylie joined the Rockets as a first year PeeWee in 2015. She always enjoyed going to away tournaments and hanging out with new and old friends on and off the ice.  All the best to Kylie as she is planning to attend University for a BA in Language followed by a BA in Education pursuing a career as a high school language teacher.
