On Friday morning, the U13LL Rockets played against the Flamborough Falcons Black to kick-off the Flamborough Falcons Winter Chill Tournament. The Rockets had a slow start, and by the beginning of the third period, they were behind 4-0. But, they battled hard and managed to score two goals for a comeback! Despite their best efforts, the Rockets took a hard 5-2 loss for their first game of the tournament.
On Friday afternoon, the Rockets took the ice against the Hamilton Hawks. The girls were hungry for a win, and their on-ice performance proved it! A strong 4-0 win placed them second in the standings.
The Rockets looked to keep their momentum going on Saturday morning as they faced off against the Flamborough Falcons White. Each team was determined to improve their place in the standings as they headed into the semi-finals. By the third period, Flamborough had taken a 3-1 lead. With only 1:11 left in the third period, the Rockets managed to close the gap to 3-2 for the final score and standing at third overall heading into the semi-finals.
The semi-finals saw the Rockets challenge the Flamborough Falcons White for a second time in the same day. The teams exchanged goals early in the first period and held onto a 1-1 tie until early in the third period. The Rockets came out on top after scoring a second goal, and secured their spot in the finals!
As they headed into the finals on Sunday, the Rockets were eager to prove themselves! This was a hard fought game, with both teams exchanging their first goals early in the second period. It wasn’t long before Flamborough took the lead with a second goal, and despite their hardest efforts and multiple shots on net, the luck just wasn’t in their corner. The U13LL Rockets finished off the tournament with a silver medal!
The coaching staff and families are so proud of how these girls work together and support each other on and off the ice. They have made amazing progress this year, and we can’t wait to see where the rest of the season takes them! Congratulations to the U13LL Ayr Rockets!
