Game two the Rockets faced the Haldimand Rivercats and dominated the game, winning 11-2. Next, the Rockets played in a tough match against the Kitchener Lady Rangers (Blue). Both teams played well but the Lady Rangers took the game, 3-2. In semi-final action the Rockets came face-to-face, once again, with the Waterloo Ravens. Both teams fought hard and our Rockets came out on top, winning 1-0 and securing a place in the final game against the undefeated Lady Rangers.
The championship game was an awesome display of skill, determination and sportsmanship from both teams. The exciting final game ended in a tie of 1-1 which was followed by a scoreless overtime. The Lady Rangers went first in shoot-outs and couldn’t make it count. The Rockets’ first attempt found the back of the net, putting the Rockets in the lead. Both teams failed to score on their next attempts. The Lady Rangers’ final chance to even the score was shut down by the Rockets’ goalkeeper, making our Rockets the winners! These final two teams demonstrated a high level of class and left the tournament with a newfound respect and appreciation for each other.
The Ayr team played with four different goaltenders in these five games, showing great adaptability and tenacity. They should be proud of the way they’ve handled themselves on and off the ice. This local tournament is the Ayr Rocket U15 LL team’s second gold this season! Keep up the great work Rockets, coaches and trainers.
