U18BB take International Silverstick Championship

The U18BB Ayr Rockets Girls Hockey team won the International Silverstick Tournament hosted by Sarnia on January 6-8 2023.

The girls played well through round robin play, winning all 3 games, placing them at the top of their pool.

To help the team bond more, and have some off ice fun, Manager Paula arranged for the girls to do a little battle amongst each other with some axe throwing for the afternoon. A great time was had by all.

Winning their quarter final game Saturday night, saw the Rockets face off against a feisty Detroit Little Caesars team early Sunday morning. With tough game play, the
Rockets ended up on top winning 5-3, punching their ticket to the finals.

Playing against a determined St. Thomas Panthers squad for gold, the Rockets got on the board early and scored two goals in the first period. St. Thomas bested them on shots at net in the first period, and fortunately the Rockets defense and goalie kept them from scoring. The second period was quiet with end to end tight game play, and no scoring. St. Thomas scored early in the third, pressuring the Rockets, however, that was the end to their scoring. Ayr scored an insurance goal halfway through the third, securing the Rockets 3-1 win for the championship.

It was a whole team effort by the girls, under great leadership of the coaching staff.
